Thorp Building History

The Thorp Building, constructed in 1924, was initially built as a warehouse for the Thorp & Eberhardt Company, a major wholesale grocery distributor. Its architectural style reflects the Renaissance Revival, characterized by intricate brickwork and large arched windows.

During World War II, in 1942, the building was repurposed as a supply depot for the U.S. Navy, playing a crucial role in the war effort by storing and distributing essential military supplies.

After the war, the Thorp Building transitioned back to commercial use, accommodating various businesses and offices. In recent years, it has been recognized for its historical significance and architectural value, contributing to Minneapolis’s rich industrial heritage.
